Aleutian Airways Receives FAA Approval to Begin Flying

Operated by Sterling Airways, the Aleutian Airways brand brings Saab 2000 service back to the Aleutian Islands

Aleutian Airways, is proud to announce the successful completion of all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements necessary to begin operations. This achievement adds the Saab 2000 to Sterling Airways’ Part 121 Air Carrier Certificate, allowing service from Anchorage to begin under the Aleutian Airways brand after completing a rigorous FAA proving run process to demonstrate safety, reliability, and operational soundness.

Aleutian Airways is a joint venture between several veteran airline investors and operators including Wexford Capital, McKinley Alaska Private Investment and Alaska Seaplanes, which plans to restore reliable nonstop Saab 2000 service back to the Aleutian Islands as well as other destinations throughout Alaska.

Chartered service will begin immediately, and an announcement on scheduled service and routes will be released this fall.

“We are extremely proud of our team for completing and reaching this historic milestone. The creation and operation of Aleutian Airways would not have been possible without their hard work and dedication this past year,” said Wayne Heller, CEO of Sterling Airways. “We’ve built this airline in response to input from community and business leaders and look forward to serving their needs and becoming the airline of choice for Southwest Alaska.”
